Grant Highlights: Supporting Literacy, Reading and Lifelong Learning
NPT UK has continued to support organisations that open doors to learning, reading and education for people of all ages and backgrounds. From improving access to education in challenging environments, to inspiring a love of books from an early age and sustaining world-class learning resources, these grants reflect our DAF donors’ commitment to literacy as a powerful tool for opportunity and social change.
Expanding Access to Learning in the Criminal Justice System
NPT UK made several grants to an organisation working to improve access to education for people in prison in the UK. The funding supports learners at every stage, from basic literacy and numeracy through to higher education and vocational qualifications. By helping to remove financial and practical barriers to study, this work enables individuals to build skills, confidence and self-belief. Access to education can be life-changing, offering hope for the future, supporting successful rehabilitation and helping to reduce reoffending through the transformative power of learning.
Inspiring a Love of Reading from an Early Age
NPT UK awarded one £200 grant and one £1,000 grant to an organisation dedicated to ensuring that every child has access to books and reading opportunities, regardless of their background. Through book-gifting programmes, resources for families and educators, and targeted support for vulnerable children, this work helps children develop early literacy skills and a lifelong love of reading. By nurturing curiosity, imagination and confidence, the project supports wellbeing and lays strong foundations for future learning.
Sustaining Access to Knowledge and Scholarship
A £25,000 grant was made to support an independent library that plays a vital role in learning, literacy and intellectual life. The funding helps sustain access to an exceptional collection of books and resources used by readers, writers, researchers and learners. By preserving literary heritage and providing a space for study, reflection and intellectual exchange, the library continues to foster creativity, scholarship and literacy across generations.
From early years reading to education in custodial environments and access to lifelong scholarship, these grants reinforce that learning and access to books can empower individuals, strengthen communities and create lasting change.
