International Women’s Day 2026: “Give To Gain” and the Power of Philanthropy
International Women’s Day, marked each year on 8 March, is a moment to celebrate women’s achievements while recognising the inequalities that remain. The 2026 theme, Give To Gain, highlights a simple but powerful idea: when we give with purpose, everyone benefits. This principle sits at the heart of philanthropy and shapes how lasting change for women and girls can be achieved.
Philanthropy has long supported gender equality, but Give To Gain encourages a shift from seeing giving as charity to viewing it as an investment in shared futures. When women and girls are supported through education, healthcare, leadership and economic opportunity, the impact reaches far beyond individuals. Families are strengthened, communities grow more resilient, and entire societies benefit.
Meaningful philanthropy is rooted in trust, respect and partnership. It recognises the importance of backing women-led organisations and listening to those with lived experience. It values long-term change over short-term solutions, and understands that empowering women requires more than funding alone. Time, knowledge, advocacy, and visibility all have a role to play. When these resources are shared thoughtfully, they create the conditions for women to thrive.
International Women’s Day 2026 is an opportunity to reflect on how we give and why it matters. Philanthropy, in all its forms, has the potential to challenge inequality, shift power, and create lasting impact. Whether through financial support, mentorship, advocacy, or sharing platforms and influence, giving with intention can help build a fairer and more inclusive world. NPT UK donors have long invested in supporting women’s rights and empowerment, using their DAFs to move these important causes forward.
This International Women’s Day, Give To Gain calls on us to see generosity as a collective act of progress. By supporting philanthropy that uplifts women and girls, we invest in stronger communities and a more equitable future—because when women gain, we all do.
